The new chairman of Fed took over the agency in the American economic context has had a lot of movement and President Trump had previously offered a high expectations of interest. Even so, during the ceremony Trump said he wanted Warsh "to do his way and get the job done well". "I want Kevin to be completely independent. Don't look at me, don't look at anybody," he said.
As of last year, Fed and Chairman Jerome Powell have repeatedly been criticized by the President of the United States for not reducing the strong interest rate. During the selection of the candidate in place of Powell, Trump also repeatedly said that he would select only interest-sharp supporters. This raised concerns that the independence of the currency management could be weakened under the new president, thus restricting the ability to control inflation and to stabilize the market.
The ceremony itself sworn on May 22, also showed the unprecedented level of interference by Trump with Fed during the second term. Warsh was the first Fed chairman to swear in the White House since Alan Greenslade in 1987. Even, at the end of the day, the President of the United States announced that interest rates would be "very fast", asserting his expectations to Fed under Warsh.
"Wait and see what happens. I had a bad Fed Chairman, and now I have a great guy. Kevin just took an oath today. He is great and will do even better," said Trump at an event in Suffern, New York State. Warsh was nominated by US President Donald Trump for this position.
Warsh is now 56 years old, being the 11th Fed Chairman in modern times. He succeeded Jerome Powell - who held the post for eight years. The January 22 oath ceremony also marked the second Warsh working at Fed. He was former governor of the 2006-2011 period, the time when this agency co-opted with the U.S. Department of Finance to deal with the global financial crisis.
