More than 700 gold, silver, and bronze medals will be given to runners who win at the opening Winter Olympics in Italy on 6/2. If you ignore the spiritual value, these medals are more expensive than ever due to precious metals rising over time.

The Fact Set Data Database states that compared with the Paris Olympics July 2024, the world's gold and silver prices delivered in turn rose 107% and 200%. According to this, the metal alone, the price of a gold medal was about $2,300, more than double than at the Paris Olympics. Silver medals cost close to US$14,000, triple.

The Inn and the Italian money mill makes medals for this year's Winter Olympics entirely from renewable metal. Each gold medal weighed 506 grams but contained only 6 grams of pure gold, left with silver.

The 500 gram silver medal, made entirely from silver. Meanwhile, each bronze medal was made out of 420 grams of copper, which cost about $26,650, according to data published by the department.

According to Baldwin's Prices (London), Olympic gold medals have not been made entirely of gold since the 1912 Olympics in Stockholm, Sweden. At the time, they weigh only 26 grams, worth less than $20. If adjusted to inflation in the United States, the figure is equivalent to about $530 now.

However, as a collection item, Olympic medals can be sold at a much higher price than the metal value, Dominic Chorney - the head of ancient money department at Baldwin’s.

In 2015, Baldwin’s sold a Stockholm 1912 Olympic gold medal for £1700,000 (36,000).

The following year, they sold a bronze medal for the Antwerp 1920 Olympic Olympics for £640 (875). This medal "is of no internal value", but is still hunted for attached to the world's most famous sports event, Chorney explains.

Most Olympic medals, though, were not sold. "Very few Olympic athletes sell medals, because they appreciate them," he said.

Last year, the gold price delivered right out of the world rose over 60%. From the beginning of the year, this precious metal price continues to increase by 10%.

Recent developments indicate that gold and silver can continue to push the value of the Olympic medal higher. Ole Hansen - Chief of Commodities at Saxo Bank, identified the precious metal needs that were predicted to remain high in the prolonged political unrest scene and increased government debt.

"I suppose the gold and silver medals at the 2028 Summer Olympics will be even more expensive," he said.
