Early June, FIFA informed White House they want Trump to personally present golden Cup to captain of World Cup winning team. Senior officials from Canada and Mexico - co-hosts with US - also invited to closing ceremony.

According to usual FIFA protocol, Cup is placed on separate podium before winning team member brings it to stage to celebrate. However, FIFA lets Trump decide how to participate. He can stand with leaders and guests of honor after presenting Cup, or stay with players during Cup lift.

White House sources believe US President likely to choose second option, like when he appeared among Chelsea players during Club World Cup ceremony.

Besides Trump, several US administration officials appeared at World Cup 2026 events. Secretary of State Marco Rubio attended match where US beat Paraguay 4-1 at SoFi Stadium, Los Angeles on June 12.

Relationship between Trump and Infantino is close. FIFA President visited White House multiple times during World Cup prep, and presented FIFA Peace Award to Trump at group stage draw in Washington last December.

Usually, championship Cup is presented by FIFA President. However, historically, some heads of state did this, like King Juan Carlos of Spain in 1982 or Queen Elizabeth II in 1966.
