Millions of football fans are present at U.S. 2026 World Cups in New York, bars and restaurants that run as hard as they can from morning matches to late-night celebrations. The register kept ringing, the beer kept pouring, but the tips (tip) the employees received so much lower than they expected.
At McCarthy’s Pub NYC on West 46th Street, the female employee Louise Daggett stated that serving international guests brought many interesting but also confusing experiences. "Everyone is very pleasant, loud and friendly. But I find it hard to understand that many people don't leave tips like Americans do," she said.
Many of the staff were thrilled when a large group of guests ordered many things, sat for hours but left little tips. Daggett said, there were bills up to nearly $700 but guests refused to tip. When asked, she had to explain that tips were important and were a custom among the indigenous people. "Most guests are not rude, they simply don't know the rules here", Daggett remarked.

Calimano's staff are learning to adapt. "They knew they wouldn't get a 20% tip. Even so, they were fine because the store was crowded with guests, so the total income was guaranteed", Mrs Calimano said.
In order to defend themselves for the rights of the laborers, after 10 days of the World Cup started the war, many restaurants in Kansas City, Atlanta and Philadelphia began to automatically add the fee for serving 20% on the bill. This move receives support from service unions and restaurant operators.
At Greve’s Irish Pub on West 41, business air is also peaking. "There's always plenty. Even our mornings are more numerous than the last night. The Scots almost took over the city", the brewer Cathal Reynolds said.
He understood that visitors had spent a great deal of money on going to the US to watch football. Even so, he hoped that international guests could join the custom. "If you come here, you should participate and experience native culture, including the culture of tips, so you'll have really full memories," he said.
