Chứng kiến màn trình diễn của ngôi sao trẻ thuộc Barca, Rooney tỏ ra ngưỡng mộ khi bình luận trên BBC. "Tôi thực sự yêu thích cậu ấy. Yamal khiến tôi mỉm cười", huyền thoại Man Utd nói. "Cách cậu ấy chơi bóng mang đến niềm vui và sự hứng khởi".

Rooney đánh giá điểm nổi bật nhất của Yamal là sự trưởng thành vượt xa tuổi 18. Anh vừa trở thành cầu thủ thứ hai ghi bàn mở tỷ số tại World Cup khi chưa quá 18 tuổi, sau Pele năm 1958. "Yamal có IQ bóng đá kiệt xuất, điều rất khó dạy một cầu thủ", cựu đội trưởng tuyển Anh nhận xét.

Yamal từng góp công lớn giúp Tây Ban Nha vô địch Euro 2024, khi mới 16, 17 tuổi. Rooney cho rằng Yamal đang trưởng thành hơn và sự hiện diện của anh mang lại tác động tích cực cho toàn bộ tập thể Tây Ban Nha.
