Sinh ra tại Hà Lan nhưng mang dòng máu Curacao, Room khoác áo đội tuyển quốc gia Caribe từ năm 2015 sau lời mời của HLV Patrick Kluivert, cựu danh thủ Hà Lan dẫn dắt Curacao giai đoạn 2015-2016. Anh cho biết việc đại diện cho quê cha là quyết định đầy cảm xúc và tự hào: "Tôi đã nhắm mắt lại và nghĩ về tất cả những gì chúng tôi đã trải qua. Từ nhỏ tôi đã mơ được dự World Cup cùng Curacao. Khi Kluivert liên hệ, tôi rất vinh dự. Đó là điều đặc biệt với tôi và gia đình".

Room nhận 7 bàn thua trước Đức ở trận ra quân. Nhưng anh tỏa sáng với 15 pha cứu thua, giúp Curacao hòa Ecuador 0-0 để mang về một điểm lịch sử ngay lần đầu dự World Cup. 15 pha cứu thua của Room là con số nhiều nhất trong một trận đấu dài 90 phút ở World Cup. Với riêng Room, màn trình diễn trước Ecuador được xem là dấu mốc lớn nhất trong sự nghiệp. Thủ môn 37 tuổi cho biết: "Đây là trận đấu hay nhất đời tôi. Tôi từng có 15 pha cứu thua trước Honduras tại Gold Cup 2019 ở Mỹ, khi Curacao thắng 1-0 nhờ bàn của Leandro Bacuna. Nhưng trận này còn vượt qua tất cả, vì nó diễn ra tại World Cup".
Các đồng đội của Room cũng không tiếc lời ca ngợi đồng đội. Đội trưởng Leandro Bacuna ca ngợi đồng đội có những pha cứu thua tương đương đẳng cấp thủ môn hàng đầu thế giới.
