Jenny Woo (American) is an expert in education, graduating from Harvard University. She studied emotional intellect (EQ) and was founder and CEO Mind Brain Emotion. The company created card-form educational games and mental health support tools to help children and adults develop human skills during the AI era.
On CNBC, Woo said she "never felt fit" with the traditional style of work from 9am to 5 pm in business. "I always wanted financial freedom and flexibility to work in my own way. So for the last 20 years, whether I've been a student, full-time employee, researcher or housewife, I've done a lot of left-handed work," she said.
Now, Woo has a variety of income sources, including the sale of products on Amazon, creating online courses, speaking in businesses about EQ, teaching at universities and investments.
"Despitely selling products or providing services, my number one advice for anyone who begins the left-hand job is to plan to make his words clear. I've seen a lot of people pursue passion without considering how and when to profit. This may be your decision to fail," she said.
On CCBC, Woo says there are three things to remember when you start doing more.

First of all, understanding the net revenues and the optimization of the cost is the survival factor at the start of the left-handed business.
Proficiency gain—which is calculated by sales minus cost—is the blood of left-handed work. Costs may include raw materials, workers, equipment, packing, shipping, advertising, travel, and rental packages that pay. Profits are percentages of net profit on revenues.

Before selling the first card toy, for expenses and improved profitability, Woo called the $1,500 on Kickstarter website. This money enabled her to pay the necessary costs such as initial production and generating of sales.
With this level of investment, she needed to sell 60 sets to fit the capital, but eventually sold over 400 sets. Large production scale helps reduce costs on each product, from which the revenues are increased dramatically.
**2. Avoiding common pitfalls can reduce profits
Woo noted that there are three pitfalls that can seriously affect the ability to give birth to a left hand job.
One, it's too low. While selling handmade products on the Etsy Electronic Trade website, Woo made the mistake of focusing only on sales instead of profit. With the hope of prestigious construction, she allowed the product to be very low and offered special customer care services.
She soon realized that raising the price was difficult when she had made a low price precedent. Even though she sold thousands of singles on Etsy for five years, she eventually had to close the line because the revenue was too thin.
The second one is, it doesn't count its own time. This experience helped her to understand the difference between a project because of passion and real business interest.
Realizing the need to expand the scale and increase performance, particularly in the amount of time she spent, she moved to selling the product on Amazon and used the Fulfillment service by Amazon (FBA) of this platform to automate logistics. This saves Woo a significant amount of time.
Three, ignore the opportunity costs. Woo had a similar situation when assessing the value of public speaking and consulting services. When she first started, she reduced the fee to hope to win the contract from older names such as Racing and Google.
After a year of operations, rising customers forced Woo to raise service fees. The cause is that the opportunity costs are much higher than the original income. As a result of this experience, Woo learned to appreciate his work from the beginning.
3. Get to the finish line and give yourself priority before
Through the years of his work, Woo has built a broader concept of proficiency. It's money, how work affects quality of life. Physical and mental health must be placed on top.
To know if your left-hand job is really making any sense, ask yourself:
How much money am I willing to invest in this left hand?
How much time am I willing to spend with it?
Is my goal to turn my left hand to the main thing?
When should I change course if the reality is not what I expected?
"It's wonderful to see the results of his efforts. But that process also requires that you understand what you value most and feel comfortable saying "no." Without that foundation, I could not have been as successful as I am now," Woo concluded.
